This has got to be one of my easiest recipes to date! There are only 2 ingredients necessary to make these tasty little Parmesan crisps.
On a recent grocery shopping trip, I noticed a new keto, gluten free cracker called Proudly Pure Parmesan Cheese Crisps.
Have you seen these? Comprised of only Parmesan cheese and spices, these crisps are great alternative to a cracker for anyone living a low carb, gluten free life.
So, why create a recipe when you can just buy the product? Well, for me, the price is way too high for what you get. At over $4 for a 2.5 oz package, these crisps are pretty expensive.
So instead, I picked up some grated Parmesan cheese at Sam's Club. I got 24 oz of cheese for under $10. So, if you do the math, the cheese crisps at the store end up costing approximately $1.70/oz. My crackers will only cost $0.24/oz. That's a savings of $1.46/oz so for the same amount of crackers, this recipe will cost you $0.60 versus $4.00. Now, if you became obsessed with these crackers and decided to eat them every day for an entire year, this recipe will save you $543.85 in one year!
If these savings have not yet convinced you, then hopefully the fact that this Parmesan crisp recipe only calls for 2 ingredients.
And, if you need a third reason, these crisps take under 10 minutes to make. 2 ingredients, 10 minutes to make and a yearly savings of over $500, this recipe is definitely worth a try!
The Execution
First, decide how many crackers you want to make. Since I was only making crackers for Mr. Grumbles and I, 12 crackers would be plenty. Are you ready for the math? For every one cracker you want to make, you will need 1 tablespoon of Parmesan cheese. Simple arithmetics!
I placed 1 of my 12 tablespoon of cheese in each of my whoopie pan wells and sprinkled each mound with Italian seasoning . If you don't have a whoopie pan
, simply place cheese in a mound on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a copper baking mat
.
Pop the cheese in the oven and let them bake for approximately 8 minutes. Remove the crisps from the oven and let them cool until they harden.
These crisps are great served with recipes like:
If you don't have Parmesan cheese, feel free to substitute any other shredded cheese. I have made this recipe with cheddar cheese and chili powder for a nacho taste as well as grated Swiss cheese and onion flakes for a French Onion soup flavour.
For a different type of cracker, try my almond flax seed crackers that are Whole30 approved, gluten free and low in carbs.
