These Olive Stuffed Meatball Appetizers are the perfect dish to bring to your next party. Whether you are following a Whole30 lifestyle or a ketogenic diet, this recipe is for you! By simply taking stuffed olives, wrapping ground meat around the olive and baking them in the oven, these Olive Stuffed Meatballs become the perfect and simple appetizer recipe ever!
I suffer from a lot of gastrointestinal issues and it SUCKS! I can feel good in the morning and a couple of hours later, I can feel as bloated as a beached whale. If you have similar issues, then you know what I am talking about.
Since hiding away from all parties is not a very fun alternative, I decided I needed an easy, fool-proof appetizer that would appear elegant, tasty, and easy to eat standing up.
I can honestly tell you that I have NO idea where the inspiration for this recipe came from. Combining buttery olives with the savoury sweetness the sausage resulted in the marrying of 2 of my favourite foods.
And there you have it... Olive Stuffed Meatball Appetizers.
Since most people are not on the Whole30 (including Mr. Grumbles - A.K.A. my husband), I decided to split the meat in half and make a keto version as well.
What type of meat can you use to make these Olive Stuffed Meatball Appetizers?
- ground pork
- ground beef
- ground chicken
- ground turkey
An important point to note. If the meat you decide to use (whether turkey, pork or beef) comes looking like this,
you will need to get out your food processor and grind it down to a finer paste. I warn you, do NOT try to take this texture and create meatballs as they will fall apart.
What ingredients do you need to make Olive Stuffed Meatball Appetizers?
- ground meat
- olives (small or large stuffed olives0
- cheese (optional)
- garlic, paprika, salt and pepper
How do you make Olive Stuffed Meatball Appetizers
- If you need to, place your meet in a food processor and process until the consistency is as such:
- Next, add in your spices, and cheese if using and combine well.
- Take small golf ball sizes of the ground meat, roll it into a ball and then flatten it in your palm.
- Next, take 1 olive, place it in the center and close the meatball around the olive.
- Repeat with remaining meat and olives (I used 20 large jalapeno and garlic stuffed olives and ended up with 20 meatballs. If you use regular sized olives, you will most likely get 24 olive stuffed meatball appetizers)
- place the meatballs on a baking tray and bake for 10 minutes
Do these Olive Stuffed Meatball Appetizers need to be served warm?
Absolutely not! Enjoy this warm or cold...they are delicious either way!
