Why use Beets to Make a Pizza Crust?
- According to Healthline, beets are low in calories and a great source of nutrients, including fiber, folate and vitamin C. Beets also contain nitrates and pigments that may help lower blood pressure and improve athletic performance. Lastly, beets are delicious and versatile, fitting well into a healthy and balanced diet.
- Canned beets are very easy to find at any grocery store which makes this recipe even easier if you do not want to roast your own beets. Most brands do not have any additional additives which make them Whole30 and Paleo approved
- Beets add a slight sweetness to the crust which pairs well with the ricotta and onion
- This crust holds up well to toppings and can be easily eaten with your hands (no need for a knife and fork)
- Beet Pizza Crust can be made ahead of time and frozen. Pull it out of the freezer and let it come to room temperature, add your toppings and place it in the oven for a quick and healthy weeknight dinner.
- Beets are low in calorie and in carbs when compared to gluten-based crusts.
