Why this recipe works
This keto steak tip recipe was adapted from America's Test Kitchen Honey-Soy Steak Tips with a few modifications to make it keto-friendly and low carb!
Easy - You only need 1 skillet and a handful of ingredients which makes this one of the easiest weeknight keto dinner recipes you will ever make
Taste - Perfectly balanced and not too sweet or salty.
Texture - Cooked to perfection, this lean cut of beef is perfectly tender
Leftovers - Make some for dinner and have the rest as leftovers the next day - 2 meals in one!

Easy Keto Soy Steak Ingredients
There is only one sort of "special" ingredient on this list and I will give you some substitutions if you can not buy it in your country.
- Beef - I used sirloin steak tips but you can use any type of beef you would like. Just realize that different cuts of beef can have different textures after being cooked.
- Honey - I used ChocZero Sugar-free honey but you can use any sugar-free honey on the market. You can also use liquid allulose or even sugar-free maple syrup but the end result will have a slightly maple flavour. You can also make your own allulose syrup by making homemade sugar-free simple syrup.
- Soy sauce - Use any type of soy sauce but for a gluten-free and Whole30 version, use coconut aminos instead.
- Cornstarch - Cornstarch will help to thicken the sauce so that the end result is more like a thick glaze.
Easy Keto Soy Steak Instructions
With only a bowl and a large 12-inch skillet, these Keto Sweet Soy Steak Tips turn out perfectly tender!

In a small bowl, whisk together the sweet soy sauce and set it to the side.

Cut the steak tips into 2-inch cubes. Place them in a bowl and sprinkle them with salt and pepper.

Heat a skillet on medium-high heat. Add the steak and cook until 120-125 degrees internal temperature (about 7 minutes), flipping at the halfway point. Remove the steak from the skillet and set it aside.

Add the sweet soy sauce to the now empty skillet and bring to a boil, for about 1 minute, stirring constantly. Remove the skillet from the heat and add steak, tossing to coat.

To serve, sprinkle some sliced green onions over the beef and drizzle with the remaining sauce in the skillet.
Hint: Be careful not to overcook the meat. Also, do not clean the pan after removing the beef - the sweet soy sauce is cooked in any leftover beef drippings to create the most wonderful flavour.
Variations
Like always, I suggest making these keto sweet soy steak tips as written and then trying modifications to suit your taste. Here are some variations to the recipe to help suit your taste buds!
- Spicy - add additional chili pepper flakes while cooking to imbue heat into the dish, or garlic chili sauce
- Chicken - use cubed chicken thigh meat instead of beef
- Whole30/Paleo - use homemade date paste and coconut aminos instead of sugar-free honey and soy sauce.

Storage
Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days in the fridge.

Is cornstarch keto friendly?
No. However, since we are only adding 1 teaspoon of corn starch, we are only adding about 2 grams of net carbs for the entire recipe. So, if used sparringly, cornstarch, when used in small quatities, can fit into a keto diet.
What can I use instead of cornstarch?
You can replace the cornstarch with xanthan gum. However, only start with ¼ teaspoon and increase until the desired consistency is achieved. Be careful as xantham gum can tend towards making keto sauces more "gummy" than "sticky".
What can I use instead of sugar-free honey?
If you can not buy sugar-free honey (I have to buy mine online), you can always use sugar-free maple syrup, liquid allulose or liquid tapioca fiber syrup.
Do I have to use a keto liquid sweetener?
You do not have to use a liquid sweetener. You can add a granular sweetener instead but you will have to play around with the quantity to get the balanced taste you are looking for.
Are steak tips a lean cut of beef?
Yes! They are actually considered "extra-lean", since a 100 gram serving contains under 5 grams of fat.
What are steak tips?
Also known as round tips, steak tips are considere sirloin. They typically come already cut into chunks. However, if they are not cut, simply cut the steak yourself.
