I think the word I have used the most throughout my blog is "simple".
I like all things simple because life as an adult can be a little complicated at times.
Cooking, therefore, should not!
Seriously, if cooking or baking is "simple" as opposed to "complicated", don't you think more people would enjoy doing it?
Well, this recipe is not only easy but also simple and does not require any more dishes to wash then a single bowl and spoon!
What makes this Keto Nutella Doughnut recipe so amazing?
- it only requires a spoon and a mixing bowl
- you only need a handful of ingredients
- it can be made from start to finish in under 20 minutes
- you can enjoy decorating the doughnuts as a family
- the doughnuts are gluten-free and keto-friendly
- only 1.7 grams of net carbs per doughnut!
What ingredients do you need to make these Easy Keto Nutella Doughnuts?
- eggs
- coconut oil
- milk
- Homemade Keto Nutella
- sweetener
- coconut flour
- unsweetened cocoa powder
- baking powder, salt and vanilla
What if I don't have any Homemade Keto Nutella?
If you don't have any Homemade Keto Nutella, you can use store-bought Nutiva Hazelnut Spread or NutriLight Hazelnut Spread.
Another "cheater" way of making a chocolate spread like Nutella is to simply melt some peanut butter with some unsweetened cocoa powder. Stir the mixture and add any additional sugar-free sweetener.
Although this will NOT have a "hazelnut" taste like my Homemade Nutella recipe, it will do the trick if you are in a pinch.
How do you make these Easy Keto Nutella Doughnuts?
- Combine all the wet ingredients in a bowl and whisk everything together
- Add in all the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until thoroughly combined
- Spray doughnut tin with cooking spray
- Evenly divide the mixture between the 6 doughnut wells
- Bake in a 350 degree F preheated oven for 12 minutes
- Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before flipping them onto a cooling rack
Tips, Tricks and Substitutions:
- do NOT spray the doughnut pan until right before placing the mixture into the wells
- make sure to grease the doughnut pan well
- if you don't have any whey protein powder, you can use egg white protein powder or omit it altogether (you doughnuts may not rise as well without it but they will still taste delicious!)
- you can use almond flour instead of coconut flour but increase the amount to ⅓-1/2 cup
- you can use butter instead of the coconut oil but make sure you soften the butter first
- you can replace the Homemade Nutella with any type of nut butter instead
- feel free to make these a day or so ahead of time and keep them in the freezer until ready to use
- doughnut pans seem to vary in size so fill the well about ¾th full or feel free to over-fill them and they will make a "cup" instead of a doughnut "hole"
How do you decorate these doughnuts?
- melt some peanut butter and add some additional nuts as a topping
- make a quick icing by combining some icing sugar and milk and then topping with rainbow sprinkles
- add a light dusting of Lakanto Powdered sugar
- melt a little additional Nutella and then dip them in gold sprinkles
What type of toppings can you use to decorate these Easy Keto Nutella Doughnuts?
- crushed nuts
- candy sprinkles
- chocolate chips
- powdered sugar
- toasted coconut
- crushed freeze-dried fruit such as strawberries
- crushed candy pieces such as M & M or Butterfinger bars
How do you store these doughnuts?
These doughnuts are best served the same day they are made. However, if you want to make them ahead of time, simply place them in the fridge and heat them slightly in the microwave for 10-15 seconds before serving.
You can also make these doughnuts and stick them in the freezer. Pull them out and place them in the fridge the night before you want to eat them to allow them to defrost.
