Why are Deviled Eggs called "Deviled" Eggs?
According to Wikipedia: The term “deviled”, in reference to food, was in use in the 18th century with the first known print reference appearing in 1786. In the 19th century, it came to be used most often with spicy or zesty food, including eggs prepared with mustard, pepper or other ingredients stuffed in the yolk cavity.
What is a Keto Fried Deviled Eggs?
Have you been seeing all the "Fried" Deviled Eggs recipes popping up all over the internet?
If not, Fried Deviled Eggs are exactly as they sound. All you have to do is dip the egg white in a seasoning, followed by a quick dip in eggs that have been beaten and then toss them in a crunchy topping.
Finally, fry them in some oil, stuff them with any filling and you have just created Fried Devil Eggs!

What are the different methods for making these Jamaican Jerk Deviled Eggs?
There are 3 different ways to make these Jerk Deviled Eggs:
- Fried Deviled Eggs - this is the "hardest" way to make these deviled eggs is to actually fry the egg white.
- Baked Deviled Eggs - this method involves coating the deviled eggs just like if you were going to fry them but instead you bake them in the oven
- Plain Deviled Eggs - if you don't want to be bothered with making the deviled eggs into a "fried" version, you can simply omit the coating and just fill the egg whites with the jerk filling.
I have made these deviled eggs all 3 ways. I can honestly say that I think baking the "fried" deviled eggs yielded the same taste as frying them so feel free to save yourself the hassle of "deep frying" the eggs and try the baked "fried" version.
On this tray, you can see the difference between the Baked "fried" version and the true fried egg whites...not much difference, right?

How do you slice these Keto Fried Deviled Eggs?
Instead of using the traditional lengthwise slice, I decided to cut them vertically. Not only does this make it super easy to remove the yoke, but it also makes it easy for the egg to stand upright.
To create these vertical deviled eggs, simply take a hard-boiled egg and slice a very thin section off each end of the egg (make sure to keep that white section as we are going to use it in the filling).
Next, take the egg and slice it in half. Remove the egg yolk and you end up with the perfect upright egg white cup!
How do you make hard-boiled eggs easy to peel?
In an Air Fryer:
- place 6-12 eggs in the air fryer basket
- set the air fryer to 400 degrees F for 13 minutes
- once the time is up, place the eggs back in the egg carton and place them in the freezer to cool
- once cooled, eggshells literally fall off the egg!
In Boiling Water:
- bring water to boil and add the eggs in.
- Let them boil for about 12 minutes, remove and place in an ice bath for about 5 minutes.
What ingredients do you need to make these Keto Fried Deviled Eggs?
- hard-boiled eggs
- Jamaican Jerk seasoning
- raw eggs
- unsweetened coconut flakes
- mayo
- cream cheese
- apple cider vinegar
- mustard
- salt and pepper to taste
Why do you add cream cheese to the egg yolk mixture?
Adding the cream cheese to the egg yolks helps to solidify the creamy egg yolk filling.
This allows you to make the deviled eggs an entire day before serving them.
Without the cream cheese, the egg yolk mixture can separate slightly over time causing a more "liquid" type filling.
How do you make these Keto Fried Deviled Eggs?
Prepare the Egg Coatings:
- take 1 small bowl and set it aside
- In a soup bowl add the beaten eggs to the one soup bowl and the coconut with the jerk seasoning in the second soup bowl.
- Set the bowls to the side
Slice the hard-boiled eggs:
- After your eggs have boiled and cooled, slice the tip of each end of your eggs and then slice the egg in half vertically
- scoop out the yolks and place them into a small bowl with the leftover egg white ends

If you want to Fry the Egg whites:
- take each egg white cup and sprinkle it with the Jamaican jerk seasoning, then dip it in the egg and then coat it with the coconut.
- heat the oil in a medium saucepan
- add 4-6 egg white halves to the oil and fry for about 1 minute - flip and fry the other side for about 1 minute
- remove the egg whites and place them on a paper towel
- repeat with remaining egg whites
If you want to bake the egg whites instead of frying them:
- take each egg white cup and coat it with the Jamaican Jerk seasoning, then dip it in the egg and then coat it with the coconut.
- place the egg whites on a baking sheet and bake at 400 degrees for about 10 minutes or until the coating just begins to brown on the outside
Prepare the Jerk filling:
- add the mayo, cream cheese, Jamaican Jerk seasoning, mustard, salt, pepper and vinegar to the egg yolks and leftover egg whites to the bowl of a food processor
- turn the food processor on until egg yolks become creamy (or smash the filling with a fork until smooth)
- taste the mixture and add additional seasoning or salt
Fill the egg whites:
- place the egg white on a serving tray
- fill a piping bag, or a ziplock bag, with the jerk filling
- pipe the mixture into the egg white and garnish with Easy Microwave-Fried Onions

What is there sometimes a greenish ring around the yolks of a hard-boiled egg?
The green ring around the yolk of a hard-cooked egg happens because hydrogen in the egg white combines with sulphur in the yolk. The cause is most often related to boiling the eggs too hard for too long. The green ring can also be caused by a high amount of iron in the cooking water.
If you get a green-ring, simply cook your eggs 1 minute less the next time or try to cool them down a little faster by adding more ice to the water in the ice bath.
Although the colour is not overly appealing, the eggs are PERFECTLY fine to eat.

Tips and Tricks to making Keto Fried Deviled Eggs with Jamaican Jerk Filling:
- I highly suggest using a food processor to create the creamy egg filling but if you don't have one, you can use a fork to mash everything together
- You can spoon the filling into the egg white but it will not look as pretty
- IF not serving immediately, do not add any decorations - only add decorations right before serving
- If you don't want to use my Jamaican Jerk seasoning, you can just use store-bought versions
- Feel free to use store-bought mayo (my favourite brand is Duke's as it is sugar-free) instead of my Whole30 Avocado Mayo recipe
- I honestly don't think there was much difference between frying the egg whites versus baking them so feel free to use either method
- Make sure to taste the jerky filling and add additional salt or seasoning if needed
- Don't worry about getting the inside of the egg white covered in the coconut or egg mixture - only get the outer part of the egg white.
