Ingredients Copycat Sugar-Free Snickers Bars
There are only a couple of ingredients used in different manners to create the protein nougat, caramel and chocolate layer for this delicious keto candy bar recipe.
- Butter - Butter binds the protein powder to create that amazing protein nougat texture. You can use salted or unsalted butter. If using unsalted, make sure to taste your protein nougat and add any additional salt to suit your taste. You can substitute the salt for peanut butter, coconut oil or even heavy cream if you wish.
- Protein powder - I used a combination of Egg White Protein powder and Vanilla blended protein powder. You can pretty much use any type of protein powder, however, you may need to add more liquid or more powder to achieve the desired consistency.
- Liquid Sweetener - This ingredient is used in both the protein nougat as well as for creating the sugar-free nutty caramel layer. You have several options when it comes to sugar-free sweeteners. I have made these using ChocZero Sugar-free Honey, Lakanto Sugar-free Maple Syrup as well as KetoGoods Tapioca Fiber syrup.
- Peanut butter - Combining peanut butter with a sugar-free syrup creates an almost identical taste and texture to caramel. You can always use cashew, almond or sunflower seed butter instead.
- Nuts - I like to use Spanish peanuts for not only their taste but also since they are the lowest-carb peanut on the market (only 1 net carb!). Feel free to use chopped walnuts, pecans, macadamia nuts or almonds instead.
- Sugar-free chocolate - I like to use a combination of Bake Believe Melting Wafers along with an unsweetened 100% cocoa baking bar for the perfect chocolate topping but feel free to use any type of sugar-free chocolate (whether it be chips or a bar) that you wish.
How to Make Keto Protein Bars
Are you ready to make the most delicious keto protein bars?!!
Whisk together the protein powders. Melt the butter and liquid sweetener and stir it into the protein powders. Evenly divide the protein nougat between the 12 candy moulds and press the protein nougat down firmly.
Melt the peanut butter and sugar-free syrup in the microwave. Once melted, stir in the nuts. Evenly divide the caramel nut mixture over the protein nougat. Place the candy mould in the fridge.
Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir until all the chocolate has melted. Evenly pour the chocolate over the caramel nut layer and return the bars to the fridge to firm.
Once firm, remove the copycat sugar-free Snickers bars from the mould and enjoy!
How do you melt sugar-free chocolate in the microwave?
Add the chocolate to a microwaveable bowl and microwave on high for 30 seconds. Stir the chocolate until all the chocolate has melted. If the chocolate does not fully melt after about 1 minute of stirring, return the bowl to the microwave for 15 seconds before stirring again. Repeat this process until all the chocolate has melted.
What can I use if I do not have a candy mould?
You can easily make these using a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan. Just make sure that you line the loaf pan with parchment or aluminum foil, making sure to have an overhang to make removing the keto candy bars easy.
How should I store these keto protein bars?
These bars are best stored in the fridge. They can be left at room temperature if your house is not too warm. Since I live in Florida, I store mine in the fridge. You can also easily freeze these bars as well.
Can I make these Copycat sugar-free Snickers bars nut-free?
Yes. You can use butter or sunflower seed butter instead of peanut butter and pumpkin or sunflower seeds instead of peanuts.
What can I do if my protein nougat is too dry?
Different protein powders will absorb different amounts of liquid so if your nougat is too dry, simply add a tablespoon of liquid at a time(either water, almond milk or melted coconut oil), until the mixture comes together.
Do I have to use Egg White Protein powder?
No. However, unflavored egg white powder not only blends with the other ingredients but also gives these bars a beautiful chewy texture.
