I am SO EXCITED to share this post with you! This Instant Pot Sweetened Condensed Milk took half the time as making it on the stovetop and turned out just as delicious, if not better! By adding powdered erythritol, this sweetened condensed milk can be used for all your keto baking needs!
Why did I want to create an Instant Pot version of Condensed Milk?
The simple answer...because I could not find one online. Seriously, I went through 5 pages of Google searches and not one single post has been written on making condensed milk in an Instant Pot.
Until today!
As far as I can tell, I have officially been the first blogger to post a recipe on how to create Keto Sweetened Condensed Milk in an Instant Pot.
What makes this Instant Pot Keto Sweetened Condensed Milk so amazing?
- from start to finish, it took me exactly 15 minutes. Most sweetened condensed recipes require 35-40 minutes
- you can make it sugar-free or with regular sugar to suit whatever your dietary needs
- it requires only 4 ingredients
- it has no additives or preservatives
What is the difference between Sweetened Condensed Milk and Evaporated Milk?
Both products are made by reducing the amount of water in cream. The major difference comes from the amount of sugar added to the final product. Sweetened Condensed Milk has sugar added whereas Evaporated Milk does not.
Can I make this Keto Sweetened Condensed Milk Dairy-Free?
Absolutely! Simply use a can of full-fat coconut milk and follow the directions that are listed in this recipe.
What ingredient do you need to make Keto Sweetened Condensed Milk?
- heavy cream
- sweetener
- butter
- OPTIONAL - pinch of salt, a dash of vanilla extract or a tablespoon of maple syrup (my favourite!)
Why do I like to add Maple Syrup?
Recently, a neighbour of mine came back from Canada and brought me back a can of Maple Sweetened Condensed Milk. I fell head over heels in love with it and knew right then and there that I had to create my own version.
By adding 1 tablespoon of maple syrup to the end product, a beautiful hint of maple syrup comes through the sweetened condensed milk to add an extra depth of flavour.
How do you make Keto Sweetened Condensed Milk in an Instant Pot
- place heavy cream in the instant pot or pressure cooker
- turn pressure cooker to "Saute - Hi"
- stirring every so often, allow the cream to come to a boil
- continue to cook the cream for 10-15 minutes or until it begins to thicken
- stir in the butter, sweetener and optional vanilla and maple syrup
How do you store the Instant Pot Keto Sweetened Condensed Milk?
Place the sweetened condensed milk in a glass container without a lid until it cools to room temperature. Once it has cooled, seal the keto condensed milk and place it in the fridge for up to 5 days.
Can you freeze the sweetened condensed milk
ABSOLUTELY!
I took a small sample and placed it in the freezer overnight. The next day, I simply removed it from the freezer and let it come to room temperature. Then I simply stirred it and voila! It tasted as good as it had originally!
Tips for making Instant Pot Sweetened Condensed Milk
- Make sure that you stay close to the instant pot or pressure cooker as the milk can boil over. Mine did not and I have the Ninja Foodie 6.5 quart.
- Since all pressure cookers vary in size, add enough heavy cream to completely cover the bottom of the pot. I used 2 cups and it was perfect.
- Gently whisk the milk every so often as it is simmering to make sure that it does not burn
- If you like your condensed milk sweeter, feel free to add more sweetener.
- Do not try to cut this recipe in half. You need to use at least 2 cups of heavy cream otherwise you will not have enough liquid to cover the bottom of the pressure cooker bowl.
Ingredients used as well as Substitutions and Additional Flavours
- Heavy Whipping Cream - I used Land O'Lakes
- Powdered Sugar - I used So Nourished 100% Powdered Erythritol. You can also replace this with any confectioner sugar but make sure you taste it and adjust adding more if needed
OPTIONAL INGREDIENTS:
- Brown Sugar - Use Lakanto Golden or any other brown sugar. Brown sugar has a little molasses added to it and therefore will give the end product a slight hint of caramel flavouring.
- Maple Syrup - Use Lakanto Maple Syrup or any other maple of syrup
- Coconut Extract - Add a single drop at a time as the flavour of extracts is very strong.

Just made this with whole milk it took 1hr and 10 minutes but still saved me from using my gas stove, since I only buy little tanks. Came out perfect! Nice and thick no added butter baking soda or vanilla like other recipes i have seen. THANK YOU!

i used whipping / culinary cream, it seems to work fine. I didnt measure well, just pop in 4 to 5 spoon of monkfruit sweetener

I will definitely have to try it with Trader Joe's boxed whipping cream! Thanks for taking the time to comment...I really appreciate it!

i was looking for a no-tend version of sweetened condensed milk. where you add ingredients, start the instant pot, come back and it's done. if you're just using the saute feature, it's no different than cooking on a stovetop. there's no pressure cooker element to this recipe. the reason it thickens so much more quickly than a typical sweetened condensed milk recipe is that you used heavy cream, rather than milk. it will be this quick with heavy cream whether it's stovetop or using the saute function in the instant pot.
Cat
Make sure that you are using "heavy cream" and not "whipping cream" and you should not have any problems. By using the instantpot, the surface area is VERY large so the water evaporates at a much quicker pace than in a saucepan on the stovetop. If you have ANY problems, let me know and I will do my best to guide you to easily making keto condensed milk!

I’m excited to try this! I’ve tried three other stove top methods and am not satisfied with them.
I don’t really understand how it is any different making it in an Instant Pot verses stove top since you are not using the pressure cooker function. But I hope it works for me!
