This 5-Minute Keto Cannoli Dip is absolutely divine! Ricotta, vanilla, sweeteners, chocolate chips and a pinch of salt are whipped together to form this easy and yet amazingly creamy and delicious dip. Gluten-free, sugar-free and keto-friendly!
Here is yet another post that starts with a confession...I am not Italian and I have never had a cannoli.
There, I said it!
However, since I am always looking for a challenge, this French Canadian girl decided to try her hand at what most would consider, an Italian favourite.
What is Cannoli and where did it originate?
From doing some digging on the web, I came across the website, Mazatlan My City
According to this website,
Cannoli have been traced to the Arabs during the Emirate of Sicily, with a possible origin for the word and recipe deriving directly from qanawāt. These were deep fried dough tubes filled with various sweets, which were a popular pastry across the Islamic world at the time, from Al - Andalus to Iraq and including Sicily. Cannoli come from the Palermo and Messina areas and were historically prepared as a treat during Carnevale season, possibly as a fertility symbol; one legend assigns their origin to the harem of Caltanissetta.
The dessert eventually became a year-round staple throughout Italy.
A fertility symbol?!! Shocking, right?
But when you look at what the filling is comprised of, it seemed fairly simple to make this cannoli into a low carb and keto treat!
Taking the inspiration from my Salted Peanut Butter Dip - Keto and Easy, I used the same concept and created the most amazing Cannoli dip!

What ingredients do you need to make this 5-Minute Keto Cannoli Dip?
- whole milk ricotta
- sweetener
- vanilla
- salt
- sugar-free chocolate chips

What type of sweetener did I use for this 5-Minute Keto Cannoli Dip?
For this dip, I used 2 different types of sweeteners.
The powdered sweetener I use is Allulose. I love the FitLane powdered allulose that I can buy on amazon. The cool thing about Allulose is that it is very similar to sugar. The difference is that it is only 70% as sweet as sugar so if you start replacing regular sugar with allulose, you may need to use more allulose to compensate for the difference.
I do not suggest using any type of erythritol-based powdered sweetener. Erythritol has a tendency to crystallize when it is cold. Since this dip needs to be stored in the fridge, the erythritol becomes grainy and the dip takes on a gritty texture.
I also used a little Yacon Syrup to for a little added depth of flavour but feel free to eliminate it or use just a splash of marsala wine (it is what I used to get that extra flavour when I made my Easy Gluten-Free Keto Tiramisu)

HOW TO MAKE THIS 5-MINUTE KETO CANNOLI DIP?
STEP 1: REMOVE EXCESS WATER FROM RICOTTA
- In order for this dip to remain thick and creamy, you need to remove most of the water.
- I have used both cheesecloth and my nut milk bag - if you use the cheesecloth, make sure you use SEVERAL layers as the cheesecloth can split. I prefer the nut bag method technique as it was easier to handle the ricotta and easier to clean the bag.

STEP 2: COMBINE ALL THE INGREDIENTS
- Place the strained ricotta in a food processor - you can probably eliminate this step but I wanted my mixture to be ridiculously creamy so this was a must for me
- Next, add in the allulose, a pinch of salt, the yacon syrup (if using) and a smidgen of vanilla and process it until it is fully combined.

STEP 3: STIR IN THE CHOCOLATE CHIPS
- Finally, all you have to do is stir in the chocolate chips.

Seriously, that's it!
HOW SHOULD YOU SERVE THIS DIP?
This dip can be served with a variety of different types of things to dip into it or simply eat it by the spoonful!
You could also spread it in one of my Almond Flour Crepes and spread a little of my Homemade Keto Espresso Nutella (Sugar Free, Keto).
You could always serve it with some sliced strawberries or apple slices or my Graham cracker cookie recipe (it will be posted soon, I promise!)

HOW SHOULD YOU STORE THIS DIP?
This dip must be stored in the fridge. Store it in an airtight container for up to 5 days.

5-Minute Keto Cannoli Dip
This 5-Minute Keto Cannoli Dip is absolutely divine! Ricotta, vanilla, sweeteners, chocolate chips and a pinch of salt are whipped together to form this easy and yet amazingly creamy and delicious dip. Gluten-free, sugar-free and keto-friendly!
- Total Time: 5
- Yield: 16 servings 1x
Ingredients
- 32 oz whole milk ricotta, strained
- 1 cup powdered sugar (I use Swerve Confectioner for a sugar free version)
- ½-1 tablespoon vanilla (adjust it to your likings)
- 1 tsp salt
- ¼ cup chocolate chips (I use Lily's Sugar-Free)
- 1 tbsp yacon syrup (can omit or add 1 tsp marsala wine)
Instructions
- Place the strained ricotta in a food processor. Process until smooth. Add all other ingredients, except for chocolate chips, and continue to process until fully combined.
- Place mixture in a large bowl and stir in chocolate chips.
Notes
- liked the added depth that brown sugar gave to this recipe. I probably would not have added if I was to use it as a filling as the fried pastry has plenty of sugar in it.
- You should be able to use a hand-held mixer if you do not have a food processor.
- Serve this dip with sliced strawberries, Whole30 Crepes, broken waffle cones or graham crackers.
- See above post for ricotta straining directions.
