Holiday Sugar-Free Cranberry Whiskey Sour Cocktail
This sugar-free cranberry whiskey sour cocktail recipe is one of my favourites, and I’m not even a whiskey drinker! Well, I wasn’t until I tried this drink.

WHAT IS A WHISKEY SOUR?
After creating some other sugar-free cocktails, like a Sugar-Free Grapefruit Paloma Cocktail - Keto-Friendly an Easy Watermelon Cranberry Freedom Cocktail as well as a Sugar-Free Simple Syrup Southside Gin Cocktail Recipe, I figured it was time to get some type of whiskey drinks on this website.
A whiskey sour is a classic cocktail made with whiskey (often bourbon), lemon juice, and sugar (often as simple syrup). Place all the ingredients in a shaker with ice and then serve the cocktail either straight up or over ice. The classic garnish is typically a slice of lemon or orange as well as a maraschino cherry.
Knowing the fundamental basics, I decided to create a sugar-free cranberry whiskey sour version so that it could fit into any low-carb diet! By first creating a sugar-free cranberry simple syrup, all that was needed was some whiskey, a little lemon juice.
Easy peasy!!!
Best types of Whiskey for a Whisky Sour
There are so many different types of whiskey on the market. You have bourbon, rye, Irish or Scotch whiskey. Not being a whiskey connoisseur, I decided to go with a whiskey that has a slightly warm, well-rounded flavour with a touch of sweetness.
This is what I found on Liquor.com's website:
- Elijah Craig - Rich, spicy, with just a touch of grounding smoke, this crowd-pleasing bourbon stands up to the tangy lemon and sweet simple syrup in a Whiskey Sour. It makes itself known, leaving no doubt about the cocktail’s base spirit.
- Four Roses - The gentle, fruity flavors of Four Roses perfectly balance out the sharp acidity of lemon juice, making for a Whiskey Sour that’s ideal for beginners or simply those who don’t want too much heat or edge on their cocktail.
- Old Elk - While it certainly isn’t shy when it comes to proof, this bourbon doesn’t come across hot in a Whiskey Sour. Instead, the extra boost of alcohol helps amplify the sweet, zesty flavors of the bourbon.
Given you are mixing it, there's no need to break out the best bottle, but also don't go for anything too harsh. You will notice.
This sugar-free cranberry whiskey sour is so easy to make and while slightly sour, as the name suggests, it's wonderfully drinkable. It's festively coloured, but really I think I could drink it any time.

Sugar-Free Cranberry Simple Syrup
Making the cranberry simple syrup is super easy. If you’ve ever made simple syrup, it’s much the same with cranberries added. And if you make extra, you can use it for drizzling over ice cream, scones, and more.
And it’s as easy to double or triple this recipe for a bigger batch as it is to just make a couple of drinks one evening. Because after all, it is the holidays!
I love this Sugar-free Cranberry spin on a whiskey sour because it’s just the right amount of tart and sweet, and cranberry flavour just screams “holiday” to me!
Some people chose to add egg white to their whiskey sours to get a little foam on the top. Although you are more than welcome to add it to this recipe, I am more of the "simple is best" mentality to I did not add that option.
However, if you choose to add an egg white, make sure that you add all the ingredients (including the egg white) into the shaker WITHOUT any ice. Shake the mixture, then add the ice and shake it again. This will allow the egg white to incorporate itself into the ingredients first and ensure that it is nice and foamy.

Making Sugar-Free Sugared Cranberries
Sugar-free Sugared Cranberries are adorable little gems that are the perfect garnish for just about any cocktail or holiday dessert. Addictive on their own, they are pleasantly Sweet and tart and have the perfect crunch!
To make these, simply:
- Combine ½ cup water and ½ cup of sweetener in a saucepan. Cook over medium-high until the sweetener dissolves and the mixture comes to a simmer around the edges. Cool the syrup to room temperature.
- When the syrup is cool, add 1 ½ cup of fresh cranberries and stir to coat. Work in batches if necessary. Use a slotted spoon to remove the cranberries from the syrup and place them on a cooling rack set over a sheet pan to drain. Let the cranberries dry for 45 minutes. Save the syrup for cocktails or another batch of cranberries.
- Pour ¾ cups of sweetener into a shallow dish and roll the cranberries, a few at a time, in the sweetener until completely coated. Let them dry completely then store in an airtight container room temperature for up to 3 days. After a few days they may start to soften and weep a bit. If this happens, cook them down and make a cranberry sauce to use in my Keto White Cheddar Cranberry Jalapeno Holiday Dip
