Why this Keto Salad Dressing Works
Here are some of the top reasons why I love making this Sugar-free Poppy Seed Dressing:
- Easy - You only need 5 basic ingredients and a whisk to make this keto salad dressing. You can also just put all the ingredients into a mason jar and shake it until it comes together.
- Perfectly Sweet - As much as I am a sweet-a-holic, I do not like my salad dressing to be overly sweet - especially when I add some Keto Spicy Maple Candied Nuts as a salad topping. This salad dressing is just sweet enough without being overbearing.
- Versatile - Use it as a keto salad dressing, use it as a dipping sauce for Keto Adobo Baked Chicken Wings, or drizzle it over some chicken that has been brined using pickle juice, I guarantee that you will find multiple different uses for this sugar-free poppy seed dressing!
- Tried and Tested - This recipe was adapted from America's Test Kitchen. The recipe got almost a perfect 5 out of 5-star review and everyone commented on how much they love the salad dressing! Just a few simple changes and a Keto poppy seed dressing was created from this recipe!

Keto Salad Dressing Ingredients
Simple and easy, only 5 basic ingredients are needed for this easy poppy seed salad dressing:
- Oil: Use something neutral such as avocado oil, extra-light olive oil, toasted sesame oil or almond oil
- Red wine vinegar: You can also use white wine vinegar, apple cider vinegar, or champagne vinegar if you prefer. Red wine vinegar will give the salad dressing the slight pink hew you will notice in my pictures.
- Sweetener: Your best bet is to use either allulose or some form of liquid sugar-free sweetener. Erythritol-based sweeteners can crystalize in the fridge which will result in a grainy keto salad dressing. Feel free to increase or decrease the amount of sweetener to suit your taste.
- Mustard: Dried mustard powder balances out the sweetness and adds another layer of flavour. If you don’t have it, use an equal amount of Dijon mustard instead.
- Poppy seeds
Instructions for making Keto Poppy Seed Dressing
Below are the instructions for making this sugar-free poppy seed dressing using an immersion blender. If you do not have an immersion blender, keep reading and I will show you how to make this keto salad dressing using a simple jar!

Add the red wine vinegar, dried mustard, poppy seeds, sweetener, and some salt to the bowl of your immersion blender. Add the oil last.

Press the immersion blender all the way to the bottom of the jar.

Keeping the immersion blender firmly pressed to the bottom of the jar, turn the immersion blender on. Slowly lift the immersion blender from the bottom of the jar to incorporate the oil.

Taste the mixture and add any additional salt, pepper, or sweetness to suit your taste.

Place the dressing in a jar and allow the flavours to blend at room temperature as you prepare your salad!
Hint: You can also place all the ingredients into a mason jar with a fitted lid and shake the salad dressing or use a bowl and a whisk instead. However, the salad dressing will not end up quite creamy compared to using an immersion blender.
Can I make this keto salad dressing ahead of time?
Yes. You can make this sugar-free poppy seed dressing up to 5 days in advance. Store the dressing in an airtight container in the fridge.
How much salad dressing does this recipe make?
This keto poppy seed dressing will make approximately ¾ cup of salad dressing. That ends up being 12 tablespoons which should be plenty to make a salad for 6 - 8 people.
How can I make this salad dressing extra creamy?
For the smoothest, creamiest dressing possible, emulsify the dressing in a blender. I like to use my handheld blender when making small portions. However, if you want to double the recipe, you can always use a high-speed blender like a Vitamix.
Can I use a different type of vinegar?
Yes. Red wine vinegar will add a natural pink colour to the salad dressing. However, any type of vinegar will work but may change the colour ever so slightly.
What are the lowest-carb kinds of vinegar?
White and rice vinegar are the lowest, followed by apple cider vinegar and red wine vinegar. Balsamic vinegar is the highest in carbs.

Easy Sugar-Free Poppy Seed Salad Dressing - 5 Main Ingredients!
This Easy Sugar-Free Poppy Seed Dressing is only made with 5 basic ingredients (not including salt and pepper)! This keto Poppy Seed Dressing is perfect for dipping your favourite low carb veggies, tossing it over some summer greens or drizzling it over any side dish for a touch of sweetness.
- Total Time: 5 minutes
- Yield: ¾ cup 1x
Ingredients
- ⅓ cup avocado oil or extra-light olive oil
- ¼ cup red wine vinegar
- ¼ cup allulose or less to taste *
- 1 teaspoon dried mustard
- ½ tablespoon poppy seeds
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a small pan, add the poppy seeds and toast on medium heat for 1-2 minutes or until the seeds become fragrant.
- In the bowl of an immersion blender, add the red wine vinegar, allulose, dried mustard, poppy seeds, oil and salt to taste (I like to start with ¼ teaspoon).
- Place the immersion blender into the jar, making sure that it is all the way to the bottom of the container. Turn the immersion blender on, keeping the bottom of the blender touching the bottom of the jar. Slowly lift the immersion blender to emulsify the oil into the mixture.
- Taste the mixture and add additional salt, pepper, or sweetener.
- Allow the flavors to blend at room temperature until ready to use.
Notes
- if you are using a liquid sweetener, add a couple of drops at a time and then stir and taste the salad dressing. Keep adding sweetener until desired sweetness is reached. Be careful as liquid monk fruit is much sweetener than allulose.
- you can also whisk this salad dressing together in a bowl or use a mason jar with a tight fitting lid and shake the jar until the ingredients have been incorporated
