These AMAZING Keto Clodhoppers are a sugar-free, low carb and gluten-free version of my childhood favourite holiday treat! By simply combining keto cereal, sugar-free white chocolate and some roasted peanuts, these copycat white chocolate cinnamon candied nut clusters makes for a super easy keto snack recipe!
Clodhoppers are a very well known candy back home in Canada. It all started when a guy from Winnipeg convinced a friend of his to market his grandmother's candy recipe.
Within a few years, the candy was selling all over Canada and I always seemed to be lucky enough to get some in my Christmas stocking.
If you have never had it, just let me give you one fair warning... these things are super addicting!!!
However, commercially prepared clodhoppers are no longer readily available and even if they were, they are definitely not gluten-free or sugar-free.
So, having an hankering for this holiday treat, I decided to come up with Keto Clodhoppers that would be a quick and easy holiday treat!

Ingredients
These sugar-free clodhoppers only require 6 ingredients!
- Nuts - For traditional clodhoppers, pieces of graham cracker are used. So, to create a keto clodhopper recipe, I opted for using candied walnuts with some cinnamon instead.
- Cinnamon, Salt and Brown Sugar Substitute - To make the copycat graham taste, I combined the chopped nuts with some sweetener and cinnamon.
- Sugar-Free White Melting Wafers - I love using melting wafers by Bake Believe. Not only are they incredibly priced but they melt really well and have a fantastic flavour. You can substitute melting wafers with sugar-free white chocolate chips. If you use chocolate chips instead, you should probably use a double boiler method instead of the microwave to avoid scorching the chocolate.
- Peanuts - Roasted salted peanuts add the perfect about of "saltiness" to the salty-sweet keto dessert.
*See the recipe card for quantities.
Instructions
One of the things I love most about this salty-sweet keto dessert recipe (besides how AMAZING it tastes!) is how easy it so to make!

Place the walnuts in a large saucepan along with the brown sugar substitute and cinnamon. Cook stirring constantly on medium heat until walnuts begin to brown. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Once cooled, break them apart and place them in a large bowl along with ½ cup of the peanuts.

Melt the sugar-free white chocolate with 1 tablespoon of coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl for 30 seconds. Stir the chocolate and return it to the microwave for an additional 15 seconds. Stir until no lumps remain and the chocolate is nice and smooth.

Once the chocolate is melted, pour the chocolate over the walnuts and ½ cup of peanuts. Spread the mixture out on your prepared pan.

Sprinkle remaining ½ cup of peanuts over the white chocolate walnuts. Allow the chocolate to set at either room temperature or in the fridge before breaking it into pieces and storing it in an airtight container.
Hint: Stopping before the sugar-free white chocolate has FULLY melted goes a long way to preventing scorching. You can’t rescue burnt chocolate, so best to avoid it!
Substitutions
Since this recipe is so simple, the substitutions are also just as easy!
- Cereal - instead of making candied cinnamon nuts, you can always use commercially prepared cereal (like Catalina Crunch Cereal), use homemade 5-minute keto granola instead!
- White Chocolate - use sugar-free dark or milk chocolate instead of sugar-free white chocolate
- Peanuts - use any type of roasted and salted nut of choice. Or, to keep these keto Clodhoppers nut-free, use roasted and salted pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds.
Equipment
This easy keto snack recipe does not require any special equipment. Just make sure that you use a rimmed baking sheet covered in parchment paper. This ensures that the cereal does not stick to the baking sheet and also makes clean up really easy!
Storage
Keto Clodhoppers need to be stored in an airtight container. They can last for up to 2 weeks at room temperature or for a month in the fridge.
You can also freeze this easy keto snack recipe into individual serving size containers for a great grab and go snack. Frozen, these white chocolate muddy buddies should last up to 3 months (I say "should" as they have never lasted that long in our household!)
Top tip
Make sure that you have your parchment-lined baking sheet ready to go so that the chocolate does not harden before you spread it out.

These AMAZING Keto Clodhoppers are a sugar-free, low carb and gluten-free version of my childhood favourite holiday treat! By simply combining keto cereal, sugar-free white chocolate and some roasted peanuts, these copycat white chocolate cinnamon candied nuts makes for a super easy keto snack recipe!
- Total Time: 10 minutes
- Yield: 16 servings 1x
Ingredients
For the Cinnamon Candied Nuts:
- 2 cups walnuts, chopped (or other nut or seed)
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar substitute (or any erythritol sweetener)
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon powder
For the Clodhoppers:
- 1 cup salted peanuts (use both whole peanuts and some chopped peanuts), divided
- 2 cups sugar-free white melting wafers.
Instructions
To make the candied cinnamon nuts:
- In a large saucepan, add the chopped nuts, cinnamon and sweetener. Heat the pan on medium-high heat, stirring constantly until the sweetener begins to melt and the nuts begin to brown (about 5-7 minutes). Immediately remove the pan from the heat and place the cinnamon candied nuts in a large bowl to cool.
To make the keto clodhoppers:
- Prepare a baking sheet or another flat surface with a large piece of parchment paper.
- Add ½ cup of the salted peanuts and stir them into the candied nuts. Set the bowl to the side.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the sugar-free white chocolate wafers – I usually do 30 seconds before stirring and then repeat for 15-second increments, stirring in between each, until the chocolate has melted.
- When the chocolate is fully melted, pour over the candied nuts and peanut mixture, stirring to coat all the ingredients well.
- Turn the mixture out onto the parchment paper, spreading the mixture out into a single layer.
- Cool until set, either at room temperature or in the fridge, before breaking into chunks.
- Store the keto clodhoppers in an airtight container.

Thanks. Unfortunately, the only way I get paid is through advertising and since blogging takes a TON of time, I need to get compensated somehow. Sorry you feel that way.

Would be better if there were a few less advertisements.

I have never heard of a recipe called "White Trash" but it does sound similar!

This looks similar to a recipe I have always loved called White Trash. That usually has chex cereal or cheerios. mixed nuts and pretzel sticks. Will definitely try your version.
