Thinly slicing onions and placing them in a bowl of ice water creates these beautifully curled onions. Impress your guest with a simple and elegant decoration at your next party.

  • Total Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 5-10 green onions, cleaned
  • 2 cups ice
  • 2 cups water

Instructions

  1. Cut the onions into 3-4 inch sections.  Next, with the tip of a sharp knife, cut down the center of the green part of the onion.  Don't worry if you aren't perfectly in the center as we will be slicing them again.
  2. Place the onion sections in a bowl of ice water and let them sit for about 5 minutes.
  3. At the 5 minute mark, most of the onions will not have curled but instead, they will have opened up.  Remove the onions from the water and once again, slice down the centre of the onion.  Place them back in the water for another 3-5 minutes.
  4. Store curled onions in a sealed container in the frigde for 1-2 weeks.
