- 4.5-5 lb Whole chicken (remove the gibles if the chicken came with any in its cavity0
- 1 tbps baking powder
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp thyme
Instructions
OPTIONAL
- The night before or 2 hours before making the chicken, sprinkle the baking powder over the skin of the chicken and then rub it into the skin. Place the chicken into the fridge, uncovered, until ready to bake.
Season the Chicken:
- Remove the chicken from the fridge and allow it to come to room temperature (about 30 minutes). Stir together the spices. Massage the spices under the skin and on top of the skin of the chicken. Spray the inner basket of your Ninja Foodi with avocado spray. Place the chicken, legs down, into the basket. Turn the air fryer on to 350 degrees F. and bake for 30 minutes.
- Once 30 minutes has elapsed, flip the chicken over and continue to bake an additional 15 minutes or until the thickest part of the chicken reads 160 degrees F.
- Remove the basket (with the chicken) from the air fryer and let it sit for 5-10 minutes or until the chicken reaches 165 dgrees F.
Notes
- use any type of spice rub you want
- if your chicken has not reached 160 degrees F., return it to the air fryer at 5-minute increments until it reaches the desired temperature
- save the bones and freeze them until you are ready to make some homemade chicken stock or soup!
