"Let food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food"
- Hippocrates (A.K.A - The Father of Medicine)
In the Beginning....
As a child, I was always asking the question "why". I am pretty sure that I drove my parents (love you both!) and my sisters (love you guys too!) crazy. I literally would not stop asking questions until I fully understood the answer.
I remember taking apart broken radios and toys and seeing how they worked. Curiosity was my middle name!
Fast Forward...
As I progressed through school, I struggled to find my "calling". I switched between pharmacology and general medicine but got frustrated with both fields. Neither field seemed to truly answer the age old question of "why". Think about it...when you go to see a doctor, they typically give you a diagnosis and a prescription and send you on your merry way. This was not the case when medicine first started. Hippocrates, know as the Father of Medicine, would study disease and try to get to the cause. Since drugs were not an option, doctors had only the use of food or the abstinence from food(known as fasting) as methodologies for healing.
For some strange reason, it seems as though our medical community does not seem to care "why" we have disease. As pharmaceutical companies continue to profit by producing drugs to help symptoms, lost is the drive to get to the cause of the disease. Don't get me wrong...I am very glad that we have modern medicine. However, I wish we would try to look for solutions rather then solely relying on drugs to treat the symptoms.
Luckily, this frustrated me enough during my school years to attempt to find an avenue where by I could be part of the medical community while maintaining my love of the question "why". Hence, the chiropractor world became my haven.
Chiropractic medicine is rooted in the premise that our bodies can heal themselves. Think about it, if you have a cut, your body knows exactly what to do to heal itself. I believe that we all have the innate ability to heal. Our bodies do NOT want to be sick or to become diseased. Unfortunately, in today's world where the soil is sick the warpter is sick and the air is sick, our bodies seem to be losing the uphill battle.
Today...
After graduating from college and opening my practice, I could finally start answering the "why" questions people were asking when they came to my office. I loved being able to explain how the breakdown of our bio-mechanics are the route cause of our aches and pains. As a chiropractor, drugs are not an option. We have to get to the route of the problem in order to help our patients. Otherwise, we will fail.
Currently, I have a successful practice in sunny Sarasota, FL. I love my work and my patients but felt I was missing something. I was not able to providing my patients with the knowledge of power of healing through nutrition.
This blog is my atttempt to reach out to the community and educate people about the power nutrition holds over our health. I don't have a fancy camera or any photography skills but I do have the curiosity that allow me to create healthy recipes using only "good" carbs and healthy fats. Sure, anyone can make something taste good but to successfully create something that tastes good AND is healthy is a different beast.
My Mission
This blog is dedicated to going back to the "But Why" of life. I am going to attempt to sift through all the information in order to create a lifestyle that will lead me to my goal of Optimal Health. Through trial and error, I will learn, explore and continously seek out methods to help me accomplish this goal!
